Buffy Sainte-Marie - Art of the Song Coffeehouse Podcast

Welcome to the Art of the Song Coffeehouse Podcast, formerly known as The Standing "O" Project Singer/Songwriter Podcast.

Our guest this week is the legendary Canadian-American folk singer, educator and activist, Buffy Sainte-Marie. Although Buffy’s music today is far from traditional folk, it embodies the anti-war and native rights sentiments that were prevalent in the sixties. Her music was blacklisted by the FBI during the Johnson and Nixon administrations. Despite the setback, she persevered with her music and teaching, and found a new venue, the children’s TV show, Sesame Street. In 1997 Buffy Sainte-Marie founded the Cradleboard Teaching Project, an educational curriculum devoted to better understanding Native Americans. She has won recognition and numerous awards for both her music and her work in education and social activism. We spoke with Buffy about the release of her CD, Power in the Blood.
